QuantBIM FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About IFC Quantity Takeoff and BIM Cost Estimation

Short, searchable answers about QuantBIM, IFC models, quantity takeoff, cost estimation, and Excel export.

What is QuantBIM?

QuantBIM is BIM software for Windows that helps review IFC models, create quantity takeoffs, manage cost databases, and prepare digital cost estimates with Excel export.

What is an IFC file?

IFC is an open construction model format. It lets architectural and engineering model data move between different tools, keeping quantities, properties, and elements outside a closed software silo.

How can I create a quantity takeoff from an IFC model?

QuantBIM builds quantities from IFC elements, properties, quantity data, and saved formulas. Elements can be grouped, quantities remain traceable, and the result can be exported to Excel.

Can QuantBIM be used for cost estimation?

Yes. Model-based quantities can be linked to cost items and unit rates, creating a digital cost estimate from the BIM model. Your own unit-rate database can also be imported from Excel.

Which design tools can export IFC?

IFC export is commonly available in tools such as Revit, Archicad, Allplan, and many other BIM/CAD systems. QuantBIM works with standard IFC model data and is not tied to one design application.

Is QuantBIM free?

The current QuantBIM beta download is available for free. Future Pro features, online accounts, collaboration, and cloud services are listed as separate development directions.

Do I need an internet connection?

Core IFC model processing and local work run on a Windows computer. Some download, update, or future online features may require an internet connection.

Can quantities and costs be exported to Excel?

Yes. Quantities and cost structures can be exported as standard Excel files for checking, tender preparation, or further processing.
